PVC insulated copper cables supported by a PVC insulated copper messenger wire. Suitable for used in electricity supply in low voltage installation system for service voltage 600/1000 volts shall be used as aerial single phase and three phase service drop cable.

Thermal performance

PVC insulated service drop cables typically have a continuous operating temperature of 70°C, an overload temperature of 90–100°C, and a short-circuit temperature limit of 160°C (up to 5 s). Their thermal performance depends on load current, ambient temperature, and heat dissipation conditions.

Fire performance

PVC insulated service drop cables are flame-retardant and self-extinguishing, helping to limit flame spread when the ignition source is removed. However, when exposed to fire, PVC can produce dense smoke and corrosive gases (such as hydrogen chloride), which may reduce visibility and damage nearby equipment.

Mechanical performance

PVC insulated service drop cables offer good mechanical strength, flexibility, abrasion resistance, and weather resistance, making them suitable for overhead installations. They can withstand normal handling, installation stresses, and environmental exposure while maintaining insulation integrity.

Environmental performance

PVC insulated service drop cables provide good resistance to moisture, sunlight, chemicals, and weathering, making them suitable for outdoor use. However, PVC is not biodegradable and may release environmentally harmful substances if improperly burned or disposed of.
